Janet Gieck and the Saskatoon Composers’ Performance Society are pleased to present “Music & Words.” This is a concert which will feature music by Saskatchewan composers, as well as myself. Here are the details:

Malcolm Forsyth

It saddens me to report that Malcolm Forsyth died this morning at the age of 74. It was a real privilege to be able to study under Dr. Forsyth in my first composition class. His passion, character and creativity will definitely be missed. May he rest in peace.

Upcoming Recital

Some concert information:

Tuesday April 6th, 2011
Quantz Theatre, University of Saskatchewan campus – 7:30pm
Free Admission

At least one work is being premiered: a new electronic work entitled Candlelight. There is also a quartet piece for flute, clarinet, bassoon and trumpet, though it is unknown as to whether this piece will be on the program. On this concert will be music from undergraduate students studying at the University of Saskatchewan. It is sure to be a great concert.

Update: The quartet piece will be replaced with a soliloquium for euphonium.

Some Changes

Thought I’d use the default theme that comes with WordPress for now. At least you can customize it a little bit so it doesn’t look so bland. Turns out that the banner I used previously was still hiding somewhere before I moved everything, so that was kind of reassuring. Nonetheless, I ought to design another one, as it’s been there for almost a year now.

I didn’t think to store the links that I had accumulated, so I’ll have to compile another list. This time, I’ll try to make it more personal and link it to websites of other artists, whether they’re musicians or painters. Perhaps even authors if I ever come in contact with any. As for the navigation of the site as a whole, compiling as much as I can in fewer pages is probably a better idea than to spread small things out here and there like I did the last time.

There was also an issue resolved which prevented music playback in Firefox. Supposedly there was a box in the plug-in settings that I had forgotten to tick. I have no idea what it does, but leaving it unchecked caused the problem. So, it should be fixed now.

Re-installation

Due to my domain names being shifted around, I had to re-install WordPress. Initially, matthewbecker.ca was just an add-on domain of mxpress.ca. But since I have no more need of mxpress.ca, this domain is now the main one. So, the server had to do some readjustments, and as such, I’ve had to delete and re-install a database. I’ll put back up store items and other navigation in the next little while. Looks like I’ll have to create a new site banner, too. Oh well! I like doing that kind of thing anyway.
